Pete - a shining light to all

What beautiful tributes to a truly extraordinary Pete! And how incredibly special to have this upcoming weekend where all these precious memories of Pete's will be celebrated  - I also echo just how much we can all imagine Pete smiling down, so touched and grateful to all his friends and family. Pete - we all loved you so so much and there will never be words or actions enough to tell you just how much!

I first met Pete in London through Nicky, his sister and other church friends and although I still had a lot to discover about all his uni and rowing antics :) I definitely became acquainted with his notorious smile and good humour and wit immediately  - There was no hiding the fact that Pete shone true humility and sincerity in all that he did so brilliantly  - family, friendship, work and fun. I miss Pete so so much but I am forever grateful for the friendship we had - and for the way in which he is so fondly cherished by his family, Nicky, Ed and Imogen and Anne and Harry. Pete was gold, he had the most incredible ability to shower love and care on so many and he has certainly inspired so many of us to keep believing in good. I have so many memories of Pete - not least of seeing his oar hung on his wall which was a constant reminder of just how many accolades Pete accomplished wherever he was - and - despite all the accolades, his constant ability to love and care deeply was always so evident and right at the forefront of everything he did. I chuckle at some of the memories, some from the last few years when despite the fact that it was very difficult to talk, he would still burst out in a spontaneous smile  - the time I took him a cheeky Liverpool mannequin, showed him photos of Imogen enjoying a computer game he'd helped her with creating "funny faces", stories of my family and how I'd lit another candle for him in various holiday destination cathedrals/churches  - the memories will go on forever and ever Pete. Praise Jesus for heaven.

Even this evening a friend called to say she had heard a tribute to Pete regards this weekends event on BBC radio 2 and just how much it had moved her. She explained how she hadn't really known Pete herself but just the way they had described Pete moved her to tears.  Thank you Pete for all you have been to and for us, may this coming weekend be an utter celebration of the fullness of life you embraced. We love you dearly.
