Pete Bellenger Memorial Challenge - Coxwain’s Rules

Formula for determining the value of the donation to MNDA to be calculated by the coxswain of the “Team Pete” crew.

Devised by Charles Perrin (former NCBC cox), May 2023

Presence:                                                                                                    
            (i)  All crew members turning up on time, kitted and sober, at Leander and thereafter at each change

Collectively - Add £50

            (ii)  From that sum, £5 will be deducted in respect of any member of the crew choosing (health & safety notwithstanding) not to be in the eight at end of each stage (reflects less effort by absconder!).

Per person  - Subtract £5  

Execution:
             (i)  For passage of locks achieved without incident

Each lock - Add £5

             (ii) For each riverside pub passed without an unscheduled stop (coxes to count).                

Each pub - Add £5     

             (iii) E(ii) above not applicable to bank support members! But for all their efforts                    

Collectively - Add £50 

              (iv) From that sum, £5 will be deducted in respect of any occasion a support car runs out of fuel

Each vehicle - Subtract £5

Transfers
             (i) If when rowing the eight is overtaken by swimming swan or duck, each time

Each bird - Subtract £10   

             (ii) Conversely, whenever the eight rowing overtakes any craft under mechanical propulsion

Each craft - Add £15
 
Encomium
              (i) On all occasions, and without mutiny, comply with "requests" by the coxes for greater attention or effort, at discretion of the coxes (sic!)

Collectively - Add £100 
 
             (ii) Arrival New College Boathouse - CONGRATULATIONS

Collectively - Add £75

NOTE: Cost of plasters, physio and brandy not included.
