Pete was an integral part of my New College experience. From early mornings at the river, late nights in the bar, cocktail parties, exam celebrations, even an impromptu mixed eight outing to the pub, Pete was always there with a gentle word, a big smile and his wonderful giggle. We shared a house together in our last year and he selflessly took the smallest bedroom on the basis that he would barely be there as he was rowing so much. None of us realised that the room had no heating and was like sleeping in a fridge. He never complained! Those years were precious, fun filled times and I feel very lucky to have been able to share them with him.
After New College, Pete became an important part of our family. He spent many weekends with us at home or on holiday in North Wales putting the world to rights and entertaining our kids with chemistry experiments in the kitchen. 
Pete was the most humble yet enormously talented person who unfailingly saw the best in everyone. He would have nothing but encouragement and praise for my faltering training regime and would laugh at the thought of me on an erg after 30 years. Only for you Pete!
